Suzy Maidment is a researcher and public health practitioner with 20 years of experience working in policy development, epidemiology, and health technology assessment. Her career spans the not-for-profit, government, and academic sectors, with a particular focus on population health genomics, screening and cancer.
In these roles she has led and contributed to a diverse body of work utilising a range of research methodologies, including the evaluation of tests for inclusion in the Australian Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program, community engagement to inform policy around human biobanking for research, assessing trends in health service utilisation using data linkage, and clinical- and cost-effectiveness analysis of genetic and prenatal screening. Her PhD dissertation, “Diagnosing Foetal Aneuploidy in Australia: The Impact of Prenatal Screening and the Integration of New Technology,” led to multiple papers and an invited editorial recommending public funding of cell free foetal DNA aneuploidy screening. Suzy is firmly committed to contributing to the development of evidence-based policy that maximises health outcomes equitably and responsibly.
She is currently applying her expertise to the aged care and disability sectors.
