Brightwater is proud to announce the latest recipients of the Homeward Bound (HWB) program, an initiative designed to support our residents as they move from Brightwater’s disability care facilities into independent or supported living environments. This transition, while exciting, can be a significant change for those who have called places like Marangaroo or Oats Street their home.
Dane Sykes' new beginning
Since February last year, Dane has resided at Oats Street, working diligently on his rehabilitation. His efforts have paid off, and Dane is now ready to move into a private rental home. The HWB program will provide Dane with crucial support during this important phase. He will receive a starter pack that includes household essentials—from white goods to kitchen equipment—allowing him to live independently with occasional support visits.
Murray Gilbert embraces community living
Murray Gilbert, who has been at Oats Street since October 2021, has also shown tremendous progress in his rehabilitation. Transitioning to a Community Disability Housing Program home, Murray recently benefited from the HWB program. He received a new fridge, bedding and towels - Murray's home is now set up with everything needed for comfortable daily living.
Roy Royal builds a comfortable space
Roy Royal, who has an acquired brain injury along with other complex health issues, recently moved from Oats Street to a shared home in Forrestfield. As a recipient of the HWB program, Roy is now better equipped to tackle the challenges of managing a household. The program provided him with essential items to ensure his new home is both secure and welcoming.
About the Homeward Bound Program
The HWB program is made possible through generous financial and in-kind support, reflecting Brightwater’s commitment to their clients' wellbeing and independence.
Each recipient receives a starter pack valued at over $900, including kitchen utensils, bedding, toiletries, a $200 Coles voucher for groceries and cleaning supplies, and a $700 Harvey Norman voucher to purchase appliances such as a microwave or fridge.
By alleviating some of the stress associated with such a major life change, the Homeward Bound program plays a crucial role in enabling former residents to reintegrate into the community and rediscover their independence.
