Not approved for Home Care Funding

Exploring your home care funding options.

If you are just starting to look into your options for some help at home, it is likely you’ll have a lot of questions.

The most common question we get asked is “Am I eligible for government-subsidised home care services”. The Australian Government heavily subsidises the cost of home care for pensioners. Determined through a phone and face-to-face assessment, you may be eligible for funding through one of two government initiatives, or you can also access home care services by paying privately.

The first step is to check if you meet the requirements for an assessment. To qualify for an assessment you must meet the government criteria, including:

  • How much assistance you need with everyday tasks
  • That you are 65 years or older (50 years or older for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people)

You may be eligible for government-funded home care if you have:

  • Noticed a change in what you can do or a reduction in your current health
  • Been diagnosed with a medical condition or cognitive diagnosis
  • Experienced a change in family care arrangements, or
  • Experienced a recent fall, hospital admission or reduced mobility.

How to get started

If you think you might be eligible for government-subsidised home care, we can help you get started. If you are not eligible, or would like to start services straight away, you also have the option to pay for your home care services privately.
